Claudius Sokenu, a former senior counsel with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, Division of Enforcement, is Deputy General Counsel, Global Head of Litigation, and Global Head of Ethics and Compliance at Marathon Petroleum Corporation, a Fortune 30 petroleum refining, marketing, and transportation company. Claudius oversees all of Marathon’s litigation, internal and government investigations, and the ethics and compliance program. Prior to joining Marathon Petroleum, Claudius was a Litigation Partner at Shearman & Sterling’s New York, Washington, DC, and London offices. Claudius was the first African-American man to be elected partner at Shearman, one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious law firms.  At Shearman, Claudius’ practice focused on representing multinational public and private companies, hedge funds, private equity firms, broker-dealers, investment banks, investment advisers, accounting firms, and their officers, directors, and employees in complex commercial litigations, securities enforcement actions and litigations, including class actions and FINRA arbitrations, white collar criminal defense, derivative actions, congressional investigations, internal investigations, and corporate crisis management.
